I blame technology…

A few weeks ago someone posted into a Facebook group for sea kayakers a question about the Wolves Rock in the Bristol Channel. You see, it was a spring tide and he wanted to know if any of the rock would show during these large tides.

The crazy thing is that he is a very experienced paddler (he’s been across the Irish Sea with us!) but he really likes his GPS and so “traditional” navigation methods aren’t practiced.

I replied telling him that 30cm of the Wolves would be showing at 1357 on the 24th August.

That’s pretty precise and a conversation developed as to how I knew that. It’s easy stuff to calculate even with me being in Pembrokeshire some 120 miles away!

Here is the conversation with details on the calculations.
